Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister: Negotiation Proposed with Oman on Temporary Route in Hormuz Strait

July 29th, according to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister stated that a proposal has been made to negotiate with Oman on a temporary shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz. If an agreement is reached, this lane would replace the current north-south route.

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister said that Oman has suggested a design where the lane would be 50% controlled by Iran and 50% controlled by Oman. We have expressed that this does not address Iran's concerns. We have stated that the inbound lane should be fully controlled by Iran, and a part of the outbound lane should also be under Iran's control. If they accept this arrangement, we will move to the next stage. We will never acknowledge the southern lane of the Strait of Hormuz, not even for one hour.

If Oman does not accept Iran's proposal regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the strait will remain closed, and we are prepared to restart war. Under no circumstances will we acknowledge the southern lane of the strait. Our proposal is that one lane of the strait must be under full Iranian control, and a part of the other lane should also be so. This proposal is clear, and Iran will not accept any other proposal.
