Serenity: GlobalFoundries Receives U.S. Chip Bill Support, Benefiting Sivers and Lumentum
July 30th, Serenity announced that the U.S. government will acquire a 1% stake in GlobalFoundries (GFS) and provide $3 billion in funding under the CHIPS Act to accelerate research and development in Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) and Silicon Photonics technology. Serenity believes that this move will benefit Sivers Semiconductors (SIVE) and Lumentum (LITE).
Serenity pointed out that the funding from the CHIPS Act this time explicitly focuses on the CPO and Silicon Photonics fields. In GlobalFoundries' previous presentation materials, only Sivers and Lumentum, the two listed laser suppliers, were specifically mentioned.
At the same time, Sivers' laser array has recently been included in GlobalFoundries' SCALE platform's CPO reference design. Serenity believes that the U.S. government is accelerating the development of the domestic CPO industry chain, and this strategic layout is similar in significance to the previous support for Intel's foundry business.
