U.S. and Brent crude oil prices rose in the short term; Iranian media says Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi's contacts with the U.S. were unauthorized.

September 23: U.S. and Brent crude oil prices surged in the short term, with WTI crude oil touching $92 per barrel, up 2.82% intraday. Brent crude oil broke through $98 per barrel, up 2.76% intraday.

On the news front, according to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, the interaction between Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi and Witkoff, one of Trump's negotiating representatives, was not coordinated with or approved by the relevant decision-making and responsible bodies, including the Supreme National Security Council. Some claims that "the action was coordinated" are not true.

Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, previously said in a television interview that the original plan was to once again convey Iran's 7 conditions to the "intermediary." This statement is seen as indirectly indicating that Araghchi did not have permission beyond this authorized scope to interact directly with Witkoff. Accordingly, Araghchi needs to explain this allegedly "improper" action to the relevant bodies and the Iranian public, clarifying why he took such a move against the national interest.
