OpenAI follows Claude's membership benefits: monthly complimentary equivalent API credits, up to $500
Beating AI News Flash: OpenAI announces that it is granting API credits to eligible ChatGPT Pro and Business users.
Pro users on the three monthly plans of $100, $200, and $500 can respectively claim API credits of an equivalent amount.
Business is calculated by paid seats: Standard at $20 per seat and Premium at $100 per seat, with the entire workspace eligible to claim up to $500 per month.
This benefit is not an OpenAI first. Anthropic launched a similar policy for Claude Max and Team users as early as October 7. Max 5x and 20x users can respectively claim $100 and $200 per month, while Team is likewise calculated by seat, up to $500.
To claim, a paid subscription must have been active for at least 7 days, and the account must be linked to one's own API organization. The first credit amount is prorated based on the remaining time in the current billing cycle, and subsequent credits are automatically issued upon subscription renewal. Unused credits expire and are cleared at the end of the period and cannot be rolled over.
The gifted API credits can be used to call OpenAI's text, image, voice, and other models, but cannot be used to pay for Codex usage fees, even if logging in to Codex with an API Key.
