AI chip supply crunch intensifies as OpenAI CEO meets with about 50 Samsung executives to deepen cooperation.
Beating AI News Flash: According to Bloomberg, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with approximately 50 Samsung Group executives in South Korea on October 31 to discuss deepening cooperation in memory chips and AI infrastructure. Attendees came from Samsung's electronics, finance, and biotech business units, and topics covered the impact of AI on industries, corporate decision-making, and business opportunities over the next decade.
The meeting comes amid tight global memory chip supply and持续 rising prices. Surging demand from data center operators has further intensified competition for chip supply. The world's five largest AI infrastructure players plan to invest more than $3 trillion over the coming years, and memory chips account for about one-third of data center spending.
The meeting also builds on previously announced cooperation between the two sides, including supplying memory chips for OpenAI's "Stargate" infrastructure project and jointly building AI data centers, covering options such as offshore floating data centers.
