Michael Saylor responds to MSCI possibly removing MSTR: Not that important to Strategy, hopes MSCI will reconsider
October 18 - Michael Saylor, founder of bitcoin treasury company Strategy, responded in a Bloomberg interview to the possibility that MSCI's new index rules could remove MSTR. He said the move is not that important to Strategy because the amount of funds they control is quite small, but he is disappointed with MSCI's stance so far. Oil, natural gas, land and machines all count as capital, yet bitcoin does not - this is a value judgment and in fact a bias against digital assets. They are like unregistered financial advisors and have set a "bad precedent" for the entire industry, and he hopes they will reconsider. Digital assets represent the future. MSCI may not want to participate in this future, but investors will not agree, and neither will the United States. If MSCI drops the proposal to remove MSTR, it would benefit the entire industry.
On the core dispute over whether Strategy is a company with actual operating business, Michael Saylor compared it to banks and insurance companies. He believes these financial institutions sell credit and insurance policies, while Strategy uses bitcoin to back digital credit products, so Strategy is an operating enterprise and should be viewed the same as other financial companies.
