Firedancer Requires 1 SOL Burn per Vulnerability Report to Curb AI Junk Submissions
October 27: According to CoinDesk, a flood of AI-assisted vulnerability reports has prompted Solana's Firedancer team to require researchers to permanently burn 1 SOL — worth about $100 — for each vulnerability report they submit, in order to curb spam reports. The fee is non-refundable, even if the report is invalid, out of scope or a duplicate. Reports without a SOL burn are not eligible for rewards.
The $1 million audit contest held from April 9 to May 9 drew 162 researchers who submitted 809 reports, producing 127 unique security findings, with nearly half of the valid submissions being duplicates. Jump Crypto believes that nearly all submissions involved an AI agent in either discovering or writing them. Because of the excess of reports, the pending backlog at one point reached 299. At the same time, Jump raised its rewards: eligible findings receive double the standard bounty until November 20, triple for specific Alpenglow vulnerabilities, with critical findings worth up to $300,000.
