HKMA: Fraudulent e-HKD lending scheme has nothing to do with it, case referred to police
October 27: According to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's WeChat official account, the HKMA has received a large number of public enquiries concerning a fraudulent digital Hong Kong dollar (e-HKD) lending scheme that claims to be connected to the HKMA. The scheme lures the public into signing agreements and falsely claims that the loans will be converted into e-HKD assets. The HKMA clarifies that the agreements and lending scheme are unrelated to it, and that it will not contact members of the public about personal financial matters or ask them to transfer money; institutions participating in the e-HKD Pilot Programme and other sandbox programmes will also not raise funds from the public or market related wealth management or investment products. The HKMA has referred the case to the Hong Kong Police, and members of the public who have provided personal information to the relevant websites or apps may call 2860 5012 to contact the police.
