October 29: Ethereum developer Kevaundray Wedderburn has submitted an update to EIP-8450 aimed at simplifying the technical plan for Ethereum's transition to post-quantum cryptography. The update proposes removing the path for registering post-quantum keys via withdrawal address authorization along with the related execution layer contracts, and instead having validators' existing BLS signing keys uniformly handle the registration and replacement of post-quantum keys, with a key replacement interval of at least 256 epochs and replay attack protection mechanisms. In addition, the proposal adds a VRF tree root to registered keys and further streamlines the cryptographic specification.
