Thailand SEC Files Criminal Complaint Against Bitget Operator, to Block Platform From Dec 5

Nov 7, 00:52

Nov 7: According to an announcement by Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the regulator has filed a criminal complaint with the Economic Crime Investigation Bureau against BG Limited, the operator of the Bitget platform, for operating a digital asset exchange business without a license, and has notified Thailand's Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to block access to Bitget's website, other domains and its App from Dec 5. Thailand's SEC said that between 2022 and 2025 Bitget provided a trading system to Thai users and collected fees, ran a Thai-language website with baht-denominated pricing, and promoted itself via social media, allegedly violating the Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses. An individual who promoted the platform via Facebook and YouTube was also charged. Thailand's SEC reminded users to properly handle their assets on the platform before the blocking date. Bitget had previously announced in October the acquisition of Thai licensed exchange GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics.
