OpenAI announces GPT-6.1 Sol default context length increased from 272k to 500k, up approximately 80%

On October 12, Thibault Sottiaux (Tibo), Head of Product and Platform at OpenAI, announced that the default context length for GPT-6.1 Sol in the Codex and Work environments has been increased to 500K, representing an approximate 80% increase from the previous 272K.

Tibo stated that while OpenAI will continue to raise the limits in the future, this adjustment already significantly reduces the frequency of context compression triggers and allows for more efficient handling of tasks that require maintaining extensive context and complex details over long periods.
