On October 21, according to CoinDesk, Zcash developers have reached an agreement on the NU7 upgrade and plan to activate it at block height 3,543,405 (expected around November 5). This upgrade will reduce block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, tripling transaction confirmation speed. Meanwhile, 60% of the fees collected per block will be removed from circulation and are planned to be returned to miners starting in February 2031, while maintaining the existing block reward halving schedule.

In addition, the legacy Sprout privacy system will be completely disabled after the upgrade, and funds not transferred in time will become unusable. The proposal was initiated by developer Sean Bowe and has received approval from the Zcash Improvement Proposal (ZIP) editorial team, but it still requires formal merging into the deployment specification and integration into node software before it can officially take effect.
