Solana's new consensus protocol Alpenglow goes live on mainnet, reducing transaction finality time to 150 milliseconds.

Oct 21, 22:07

On October 21, Solana development team Anza announced that Solana's new consensus protocol, Alpenglow, has officially gone live on mainnet-beta, with the original TowerBFT consensus mechanism subsequently deprecated. The protocol's genesis block was generated at slot 459,653,000, activating epoch 1064. A total of 654 validators participated in the transition, which took 900 milliseconds. After the upgrade, network transaction finality time has been significantly shortened from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds, aiming to provide performance support for scenarios such as institutional settlement, real-time capital market trading, developer application responsiveness, and decentralized payments for AI agents.
