Anthropic Warns of Trump Retaliation Risk Ahead of IPO: AI Safety Stance May Trigger Targeted Scrutiny
On October 28, according to Bloomberg, Anthropic warned in its IPO-related filings that its public advocacy for AI safety regulations and statements by its executives could expose the company to risks such as government pressure and selective scrutiny.
Anthropic noted that it could still become a key target of specific government departments, even if other companies in similar circumstances are not treated equally. This risk stems from multiple conflicts with the Trump administration, including disputes over demands to impose safety restrictions on the use of its AI technology by the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as disagreements surrounding the safety and export controls of the Mythos model.
Anthropic also warned that future government interventions, export restrictions, and cybersecurity or biosecurity incidents triggered by AI models could all impact its product deployment, international expansion, and business growth. Additionally, once the regulatory measures it advocates are implemented, they could increase compliance costs, restrict product development and releases, and slow its own growth.
