Understanding Figure Markets: DEX’s crypto-native security market

Reimagine financial markets by combining the liquidity of traditional finance with decentralized asset control to trade digital assets, obtain secure cryptocurrency-backed loans, and explore cryptocurrency investment opportunities on one convenient platform, Figure Markets Maybe Can do it all.

What are Figure Markets?

Figure Markets is based on a decentralized custodial market that combines a multi-party computation (MPC) wallet with complete on-chain security. With MPC, Figure Markets does not take possession of the assets but can provide cross-collateralization and market-leading netting and margining. Figure Markets will launch an onshore market in April and an offshore exchange later in the second quarter. Figure Markets has a steering committee of market making and buy-side firms who donate their time and energy to building our marketplace, including providing a deep two-way flowing market. We want to capture the greatness of FTX, but never repeat the failures of FTX.

In addition to the exchange, Figure Markets will offer blockchain-native cryptocurrency-backed lending and asset management products. Many users will be able to invest in products like Figure Market’s REIT and use it to collateralize Bitcoin transactions. Figure Markets is also continuing its efforts to create the first SEC-registered interest-bearing stablecoin alternative.

Under the leadership of Mike Cagney and June Ou, Figure Markets is achieving some success in blockchain and financial products and is currently actively developing onshore and offshore decentralized cryptocurrency and securities markets. Figure Markets is leveraging Provenance Blockchain – a blockchain specifically designed for financial transactions. Since its launch in 2018, over $30 billion in real-world assets have been recorded on the Provenance blockchain. Figure Markets will operate independently of Figure Lending.

Assets saved in MPC wallet

Unlike some traditional cryptocurrency exchanges, Figure Markets does not hold users’ assets but instead holds them in a multi-party computation (MPC) wallet. MPC-based wallets help eliminate the single point of failure risk inherent in many centralized exchanges. With Figure Markets’ MPC wallet, private keys are distributed across a decentralized network, and every action requires approval from multiple parties.

The benefit of this approach is that the private keys are split and distributed across multiple nodes on a decentralized network, which act as trusted guardians. Each transaction requires approval from multiple guardians, preventing any party (including Figure Markets) from unilaterally transferring a user’s assets. Figure Markets' MPC technology ensures system reliability and minimizes counterparty risk, ensuring users have continued access to your assets even if something goes wrong with Figure Markets.

Merging TradFi and DeFi

Figure Markets’ comprehensive platform will be highly liquid Marketplace and easy lending options. Over time, the aim is to offer trading on a wide range of equities, fixed income and crypto products, alternative investment options utilizing best-in-class cross-collateralization and netting. Figure Markets also continues to work on developing registered secure alternatives to stablecoins to support the Figure Markets ecosystem. All in all, Figure Markets will allow investors to manage their portfolios with greater efficiency and flexibility on a regulated, reputable platform.

“The funding validates our vision of using blockchain technology to redefine capital markets,” said Mike Cagney, CEO of Figure Markets. “Figure Technologies is realizing real benefits by adopting blockchain across its lending and capital markets businesses. We aim to extend the benefits of blockchain to a wider range of assets – including cryptocurrencies and securities. Irony Unfortunately, the largest cryptocurrency exchanges are not on the blockchain - our goal is to change that."
