Analyzing the long-term impact of Hong Kong crypto spot ETFs from the perspective of supply and demand

1. The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission officially announced the list of approved virtual asset spot ETFs, including Bitcoin spot ETFs and Ethereum spot ETFs under China Asset Management (Hong Kong), Harvest Global, and Bosera International.
2. Six Hong Kong spot ETFs were listed on April 30, of which three Bitcoin ETFs had a total net value of US$248 million and three Ethereum ETFs had a total net value of US$45 million, with a total net value of nearly US$300 million.
3. The investor qualifications of Hong Kong crypto ETFs are strictly restricted. Mainland investors cannot participate in transactions. The demand side funds may mainly come from Hong Kong retail investors and traditional investors interested in Ethereum.
4. The biggest difference between Hong Kong crypto spot ETFs and US Bitcoin spot ETFs is the addition of in-kind redemption methods, which may allow Hong Kong crypto ETFs to have more suppliers at the share level.
5. The rapid approval of Hong Kong crypto ETFs provides a channel for the conversion between crypto assets and traditional financial assets. It is an important development for the global crypto market and will have a long-term impact on the financial landscape of the Chinese community.
