Trump's August securities trading volume reached hundreds of millions of dollars?

During his term, Trump continued to conduct large-scale personal securities trades, with the latest disclosures once again revealing a noteworthy temporal overlap between his investment activities and policy actions.
On October 8, according to CNBC's analysis of Trump's August financial disclosure filings, he executed a total of 517 securities transactions that month, with combined buy and sell amounts ranging from approximately $74.3 million to $273.3 million. Although the number of transactions declined significantly compared to June and July, his portfolio remains highly active.
The two most notable transactions were: On August 21, Trump purchased Meta stock worth between $5 million and $25 million, marking the largest single transaction of the month; on August 18, he also bought SpaceX senior unsecured notes valued between $1 million and $5 million.
More notably, the SpaceX bond transaction occurred just two days before Trump signed a major space policy. On August 20, Trump signed the National Space Transportation Policy, which mandates that the U.S. support over 1,000 launch and re-entry missions annually by 2030, and encourages private investment and public-private partnership space infrastructure. As a significant contractor for the U.S. military and a primary launch service provider for NASA, SpaceX is considered a potential direct beneficiary of the related policies.
August's Largest Single Transaction: Up to $25 Million Purchase of Meta
According to CNBC's analysis, Trump executed a total of 517 buys and sells in August, with total purchase amounts of at least $44.2 million and total sale amounts of at least $30.1 million.
On August 21, Trump purchased Meta stock worth between $5 million and $25 million, becoming the largest single transaction of the month. On the same day, he also made separate purchases of AT&T, ConocoPhillips, Abbott Laboratories, Netflix, and Chevron, each valued between $1 million and $5 million.
On the sell side, Trump sold shares of AMD and Church & Dwight on the same day, each amounting to between $1 million and $5 million. He also reduced or fully liquidated positions in several stocks including Boeing, Home Depot, T-Mobile, Datadog, Dell Technologies, Palo Alto Networks, and Nvidia, with individual sale amounts ranging from $500,000 to $1 million.
Although trading activity has decreased compared to the previous two months, the scale remains substantial. In June and July, Trump disclosed over 1,000 transactions each month, dropping to 517 in August.
Purchase of SpaceX Bonds Two Days Before Signing Space Policy
Among these disclosures, another heavily scrutinized transaction was Trump's investment in SpaceX debt.
On August 18, Trump's account purchased SpaceX senior unsecured notes worth between $1 million and $5 million, carrying a coupon rate of 5.35% and maturing in July 2031. Two days later, on August 20, Trump signed the National Space Transportation Policy, requiring the U.S. to support over 1,000 annual launch and re-entry missions by 2030, and directing federal agencies to facilitate commercial companies' access to launch facilities while encouraging private investment and public-private space infrastructure.
SpaceX is a key contractor for the U.S. military and a primary launch service provider for NASA, holding a dominant position in the commercial launch market, making it a potential direct beneficiary of these policies.
Trump had previously held a small amount of SpaceX stock: purchasing between $15,000 and $50,000 in June and July respectively, and selling between $10,001 and $15,000 worth in July. In comparison, this debt investment of $1 million to $5 million represents a significantly larger scale.
