AMD to Establish AI Research Center in South Korea, Building Open AI Infrastructure Ecosystem

July 27th - According to South Korea's Daily Economic News, AMD (AMD.O) will establish an Artificial Intelligence research center in South Korea and build an open AI infrastructure ecosystem. The South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT stated on the 27th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with AMD in San Francisco on the 23rd regarding cooperation on an AI chip ecosystem.

AMD plans to establish an AI Center of Excellence in South Korea to support technology collaboration, AI chip software development, computing technology validation, and joint research among South Korean enterprises, universities, and research institutions. It will also promote collaboration with domestic South Korean AI chip companies.

The memorandum of understanding includes the construction of heterogeneous AI computing infrastructure, connecting AMD's CPUs and GPUs with South Korean enterprises' AI chips (NPUs) that have advantages in the inference field. The two parties also plan to build an open AI computing ecosystem to drive collective participation by South Korean enterprises, covering areas such as memory, networking, servers, and software.
