Amazon Doubles Down on Satellite Internet, Plans to Deploy 5,105 Satellites by 2028 to Challenge SpaceX's Starlink

July 27th, Amazon has submitted an application to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States, planning to launch and deploy a constellation of 5,105 satellites by 2028 for providing Direct-to-Device mobile communication services.

This plan will further expand Amazon's satellite internet project and directly challenge SpaceX's Starlink's leading position in the global satellite communication field.

It is reported that Amazon hopes to provide users with satellite mobile connectivity services without the need for additional hardware through a large-scale low Earth orbit satellite network, with future coverage potentially extending to remote areas, maritime areas, and areas where traditional communication networks are difficult to reach.

Currently, SpaceX has been advancing commercialization of satellite internet through Starlink and exploring direct-to-device satellite services. Amazon's expansion this time signifies a further escalation of competition in the global satellite communication market.
