July 30th - According to Nikkei News, Microsoft (MSFT.O) is considering releasing part of its internally developed AI models in the form of open weights. Microsoft's AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman stated that as Chinese AI models are becoming increasingly popular among U.S. users, the company is evaluating this possibility. This move indicates a potential adjustment to Microsoft's AI strategy. Facing competition from Chinese AI developers such as DeepSeek and DarkMatter, Microsoft aims to enhance its competitiveness while reducing reliance on OpenAI. Microsoft also mentioned that it plans to maintain a multimodal strategy, allowing customers to use models from OpenAI or Anthropic in a more customized manner to better suit their needs.
