Amazon Advances $500 Billion Commitment, OpenAI Receives Final $21.3 Billion

According to The OneMillion AI monitoring, Amazon has completed its $50 billion investment in OpenAI. This is not a new round of funding but the closing of the $110 billion financing announced in February.

Amazon invested $15 billion in the first quarter and added $13.7 billion in the second quarter. After June 30, the company purchased $21.3 billion in OpenAI preferred stock, completing the entire investment. Amazon now holds approximately 5% of OpenAI.

The original agreement allowed Amazon to decide on early investments. The remaining investment will become an obligation only after OpenAI goes public or reaches specific technological milestones, with the latest deadline being the end of 2028. As the conditions have not been met, Amazon has chosen to prepay.
