Almost Sold $3.5 Billion Anthropic Stake, Leopold Pulls Out the Next Morning
According to Dynamic Beating monitoring, at the peak of the liquidity crisis, Leopold Aschenbrenner agreed to temporarily sell around $3.5 billion worth of Anthropic equity. The buyer was an investor group led by Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital.
This deal was negotiated on Wednesday night but was rescinded the following morning. The fund then proceeded to sell off a large portion of its public holdings to repay the loans.
In the end, Leopold retained ownership of Anthropic and other privately held companies. In a letter to investors, he explained that the fund chose to sacrifice its public equity position to deleverage and preserve its private investments.
