Huang Renxun: AI Infrastructure Investment Will Create a Large Number of Six-Figure Salary Tech Jobs
August 3rd, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated that the wave of artificial intelligence infrastructure construction will not only drive the development of the software industry, but also create a large number of high-paying technical positions that do not require a college degree.
Jensen Huang, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos with BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, stated that the world is undergoing the "largest infrastructure construction wave in human history," and the large-scale construction of AI data centers, semiconductor factories, and AI factories will bring about a significant number of job opportunities.
He pointed out that future high-income positions will not only include software engineers and computer scientists, but also electricians, plumbers, structural steel workers, as well as data center construction and maintenance personnel. "You don't need to have a computer science Ph.D. to earn a good income."
It is predicted that global tech companies are expected to invest around $70 trillion in AI infrastructure construction by the end of this decade. With the rapid expansion of data centers and semiconductor facilities, the demand for skilled industrial workers is continuously increasing.
McKinsey data shows that between 2023 and 2030, the U.S. is expected to need an additional approximately 130,000 trained electricians, 240,000 construction workers, and 150,000 construction managers to meet the infrastructure construction needs.
Meanwhile, the impact of AI on the traditional white-collar job market is also a focus of attention. Ford CEO Jim Farley stated that AI is reducing the demand for entry-level positions in tech companies, but the U.S. manufacturing and construction industries still face severe labor shortages.
Farley said that the U.S. is currently experiencing a significant shortage of factory and construction workers, and the future reshoring and infrastructure investment driven by AI will require more industrial talent with practical skills. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink has also emphasized the importance of skilled technical professionals such as electricians for the construction and operation of large AI data centers.
