Anthropic Offers High Salaries to Attract Talent, But CEO Worries They Only Care About Money

According to Dynamic Beating surveillance, Axios cited sources saying Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is concerned that some of the top talent newly joining the company are more interested in high salaries and equity rather than Anthropic's emphasis on AI safety mission.

His concern is not unfounded. Top AI researchers are moving back and forth between several labs. Within a year, four co-founders have left Thinking Machines; Google's Noam Shazeer and John Jumper have respectively moved to OpenAI and Anthropic; some researchers Meta poached with hefty sums have quickly switched jobs again.

Money remains the most direct incentive. Some researchers are hoping to secure equity in Anthropic or OpenAI before a potential IPO. Others are concerned that AI will take over more model development work in the future, and the current scarcity and bargaining power of top researchers may soon decline.
