To avoid a government shutdown, the U.S. Senate has passed a stopgap funding bill.

August 8th. On Saturday, the U.S. Senate passed a stopgap measure to fund federal agencies through December 11th, aiming to avert a disastrous government shutdown just weeks before the mid-term elections in November.

According to Fox News, the vote resulted in 90 in favor, 6 against, with Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) abstaining. While this may not entirely prevent a shutdown, it helps to stave off a shutdown on October 1st (the start of the government's new fiscal year). The House will still need to reconcile the bill upon returning from recess.
