Who Liquidated Pre-CPI Leverage? $760 million Fund 'Votes' on Crypto and Tech, Saw Gains in Storage but Got Rekt
August 12, according to TradingBeats (formerly Hyperinsight) monitoring, before the U.S. July CPI data was released, the total OI of the Hyperliquid market had rebounded from about $10.56 billion on Monday to $11.325 billion, with an increase of about $765 million in four days, a growth of 7.2%. Of this, the crypto market contributed about $583 million, with the HIP-3 market increasing by about $183 million.
Looking at the direction of new positions in the past 24 hours, the additional leverage was significantly concentrated in crypto and large-cap tech assets: ETH's price rose by 0.7%, with OI increasing by about $86.51 million; BTC fell by 0.5%, with OI increasing by about $39.52 million. The total trading volume of the two decreased by about 11% during the same period, while positions continued to expand.
A similar structure was seen in tech stocks: PLTR only rose by 0.4%, but OI increased by about $29.47 million, a surge of 253.2%; META rose by 0.9%, with OI increasing by about $23.80 million, a growth of 37.2%; GOOGL fell by 3.1%, yet OI still increased by about $18.12 million, a rise of 14%. In addition, the OI of NBIS and INTC increased by about $7.63 million and $5.80 million, respectively.
Index: The XYZ100 (Nasdaq 100) representing tech stocks fell by about 0.5% in the past 3 days, with OI increasing by about $41.33 million, a growth of 22.2%; the SP500 (S&P 500) had a similar change, but OI decreased by about $5.63 million. In the last 24 hours, SP500 million-dollar long and short positions both withdrew over $7 million, with leverage on both ends shrinking simultaneously.
In the storage sector: Although SKHX, MU, and SNDK each rose by about 5.9%, 1.5%, and 4.5% today, the total OI of the three decreased by about $45.71 million; among million-dollar addresses, long positions collectively reduced by about $20.89 million, while short positions net replenished by about $32.10 million.
Large-cap tech stocks have already started piling up positions even before the price has shown significant movement, while storage stocks have seen long and short positions both retreat during the price rebound. Micron ADR is one of the few exceptions, with SKHY rising by about 5.8% today, at the same time, OI increased by about $1.90 million, with a significant net increase of about $3.42 million in large long positions.
Other new positions are more diversified. Brent crude oil saw a slight 0.5% decrease in price in 24 hours, but OI still increased by about $16.90 million; the DRAM index rose by 4.5%, with OI increasing by about $6.49 million. However, compared to BTC, ETH, PLTR, META, GOOGL, and other targets, the scale of this incremental growth is limited; SPCX continued to cool down, with OI decreasing by about $25.17 million, a drop of 9.9%.
Note: The above fund flow is based solely on Hyperliquid Market OI and observable addresses, and does not represent the overall market fund allocation. Some institutions may also hold hedge positions on other trading platforms, spot, or traditional markets, so this serves only as a partial reference for fund movements.
