Muse exposed as strikingly similar to OpenClaw, Meta admits 'heavily inspired'

动察 Beating AI News Flash: Meta has responded to the controversy over Muse resembling OpenClaw. Nat Friedman, product lead at Meta Superintelligence Labs, stated that Muse was indeed "heavily inspired by OpenClaw," but the product was built from scratch and does not directly run OpenClaw.

The community grew suspicious mainly because the two share strikingly similar workspaces. Muse was found to contain files such as `SOUL.md`, `IDENTITY.md`, `USER.md`, `MEMORY.md`, `AGENTS.md`, and `TOOLS.md`. OpenClaw uses the same design framework to store agent personality, user information, memory, and operational rules. Community comparisons also revealed that the contents of both `SOUL.md` files are nearly identical.

Friedman did not deny these similarities. He said that after using OpenClaw in January of this year, he bought hundreds of Mac minis for the Meta Superintelligence Labs team, and many members subsequently began using OpenClaw and other personal agents.

When pressed on why even the file names and `SOUL.md` are so similar, he replied that the team believes OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger "got these things completely right."
