Bank of Russia: Wants Illegal Cryptocurrency Exchange Operators to Disappear by July 1, 2027

September 23, according to TASS, the Russian Central Bank stated it wants illegal cryptocurrency exchange institutions to disappear, and the relevant gray areas should cease to exist before July 1, 2027.

Previously, Russian President Putin signed a cryptocurrency legalization law on August 4, which recognizes digital currency as property and assigns market regulatory responsibilities to the Russian Central Bank. Its main provisions took effect on September 1, 2026, but cryptocurrency exchange institutions can continue operating without being listed in the Central Bank's registry until July 1, 2027.
