SK Hynix CEO: Chip demand far exceeds expectations, Gwangju new campus to start construction as soon as possible.

October 9: SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said today that chip demand is expected to continue growing rapidly, and SK Hynix will accelerate the construction of its semiconductor park in Gwangju, South Korea, as much as possible, with plans to announce a specific timeline soon.

Chey Tae-won noted that SK Hynix has moved up the completion target for its Yongin semiconductor park from 2045 to 2033, but future capacity may still fail to meet demand, and it does not rule out advancing construction of both the Yongin and Gwangju parks simultaneously. The planned scale of the Gwangju park is about two-thirds that of the Yongin park, and it may still be expanded later.

Currently, the specific start date for the Gwangju project has not yet been determined, and construction progress still requires coordination with government infrastructure such as water and electricity. Chey Tae-won said that even if some supporting facilities are not yet in place, the company may still begin pile foundation work first, but it will not rush the work by cutting construction costs.
