OpenAI 28-Day Sprint Day 9: Codex and ChatGPT Local State Data Expected to Be Reduced by 60%

Oct 14, 11:40

Beating AI News Flash: OpenAI Product and Platform Lead Tibo Sottiaux announced Day 9 of the 28-day product sprint. This time, the way ChatGPT and Codex desktop save local state data has been optimized, and disk usage for this portion of data is expected to be reduced by about 60%. What is being reduced here is state data, which does not mean the overall app footprint will drop by 60%.

Previously, many heavy users had complained that Codex takes up too much disk space. On Reddit, one user said saved chat logs took up 98GB, while the history database took up another 28GB; another user said Codex consumed about 50GB of space in just three weeks. Tibo acknowledged that the team has received a large amount of feedback about insufficient disk space, which is why this optimization was introduced.
