Vitalik: Ethereum should achieve universal cryptographic support through EIP-8288, reducing the need for precompiled contracts.

October 19 - Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated in a post that placing most cryptographic support in precompiled contracts and the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) is not an ideal solution. Since the data processed by both typically needs to be written into Ethereum blocks via call data, on-chain data space is limited, and even with the introduction of PeerDAS and Blob mechanisms, pressure may still be faced once actual data throughput reaches approximately 8 MB/s.

Ethereum should not be viewed merely as a blockchain, but as a "cryptographic world computer." Computational tasks that do not need to be included in on-chain data and the main execution flow should not be forced into the main flow for processing. A more suitable approach is a design centered on EIP-8288: completing complex computations on the client side, generating STARK proofs, and then submitting the proofs through EIP-8288's recursive aggregation mechanism.

Following this approach, the chain only needs to verify that the computation has been completed and its results, without directly processing the relevant raw data or executing the full computation process. Vitalik believes this will allow developers to freely use different cryptographic techniques while keeping the Ethereum chain lightweight and reducing the need for new precompiled contracts in the future.
