17-year-old former Kimi researcher Chen Guangyu reportedly joins former Google chief scientist Jeff Dean's startup team; new company seeking $50 billion valuation
Beating AI News Flash: 17-year-old former Kimi researcher Chen Guangyu has been reported to have joined Discovery Loop, an AI company founded by former Google Chief Scientist Jeff Dean.
On October 20, Arfur Grok, an anonymous account dedicated to tracking AI talent flows in Silicon Valley, disclosed the news. Chen Guangyu had just announced his departure from Kimi 5 days earlier, and had previously participated in research on the Attention Residuals architecture and the development of Kimi K3.
Discovery Loop was only founded in August this year, co-founded by Jeff Dean and three other Google veterans. The company plans to have AI autonomously propose research hypotheses, run thousands of experiments in parallel, and continuously adjust its approach based on the results. It initially focuses on AI model R&D and will expand into fields such as healthcare, materials, and energy in the future. Alphabet, Google's parent company, is also one of its founding investors.
The company has not yet launched a public product, yet its valuation is already astonishing. Business Insider reported in September that Discovery Loop is seeking financing at a valuation of approximately $50 billion.
Previously, Silicon Valley investor Deedy Das mentioned that a 17-year-old had received 5 million-dollar-level AI job offers. The outside world speculated that it was Chen Guangyu, but Deedy never publicly revealed the person's identity.
