GPT-6.1 Terra Released: Computer Operation Test Matches Astra, Token Unit Price Only One-Tenth
Beating AI News Flash: OpenAI releases GPT-6.1 Terra, focused on cheaper and faster computer operation. The model can understand screens, fill out forms across applications, process invoices, and also understand engineering drawings and edit videos. The API charges $1 and $5 per million input and output tokens respectively, compared with $2 and $12 for the previous generation GPT-5.6 Terra.
In OpenAI's published Agents' Last Exam professional task test, the new Terra is 15 percentage points higher than the old version at the medium reasoning level, while the cost per question is only about one-third. It even matches the flagship GPT-6 Astra in this test, with a token unit price only one-tenth of the latter, and completes tasks more than three times faster than Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol.
Third-party evaluation agency Artificial Analysis also verified its improved cost-effectiveness. The new Terra's comprehensive intelligence index reached 48 points, higher than the old version's 42 points, but still lower than Sol's 52 points. At the highest reasoning level, the agency measured an average cost per question dropping from $1.40 to $0.40. Its low and medium reasoning levels have entered the cost-efficiency frontier of current models.
GPT-6.1 Terra is now available on ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API, with Work and Codex access open to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users.
