Google releases official Android plugins for Claude and Codex, and enables Gemini to directly invoke App functions.

Beating AI News Flash: At the Android Developer Summit on October 28, Google launched official Android CLI plugins for Claude Code and Codex. They can not only write code, but also compile apps, inspect interfaces, simulate clicks, and run tests. When a real device is needed, they can also remotely call Android phones in Google's device lab to install applications and capture logs, without plugging in a phone yourself or running an emulator.

Google has also opened Android Studio to third-party Agents. Developers can directly connect more than 40 compatible coding Agents, including Claude and Codex, and let them use development tools such as compilation and debugging.

On another front, Google also wants AI to bypass the phone interface and directly call app functions. AppFunctions, the underlying layer of Android MCP, has entered Beta, and developers can open functions such as bookkeeping and queries to authorized Agents. For example, users only need to tell Gemini, "Record $5 for coffee for the Paris trip," and it can directly call the travel app's bookkeeping function without opening pages and clicking layer by layer.

To bring these capabilities truly into Gemini and Google Search, Google has also launched the Connected Apps Platform. Developers can connect through Android MCP or cloud MCP and manage and test in a unified way. Currently, Gemini and Google Search have more than 50 connected apps in total, with partners including Adobe, Peloton, and others.
