AI testing tool e2e raises $8 million, surpassing 1.5 million downloads in its first month as open source.

Beating AI News Flash: YC-incubated startup TesterArmy has announced its rebranding to e2e and the completion of an $8 million seed funding round. Investors include Credo Ventures, Point Nine, and the co-founders of Uber and Snowflake. Combined with its previous $1.2 million pre-seed round, the company has raised a total of $9.2 million.

e2e is an open-source AI automated testing tool designed primarily to check whether AI-written software runs properly. For example, to test a membership upgrade feature, developers only need to describe "upgrade the account to Pro," and the AI will automatically find the entry point, click the button, complete the action, and then verify through code whether the membership status has actually changed. Under the hood, it combines Playwright and AI Agent, enabling the AI to understand pages and execute actions while also using traditional assertions to precisely verify results.

It also caches verified operation steps. The next time the same test runs, it prioritizes direct replay, and only re-invokes the AI when page changes cause the replay to fail. This reduces the cost of repeated reasoning and avoids relying on the model to re-determine the operation path on every test run.

The team previously operated the closed-source testing platform TesterArmy, but customers could not manage test code alongside their projects, nor could they freely switch models or run tests locally. On October 1 this year, the team open-sourced the tool under the Apache 2.0 license. The company says it surpassed 1.5 million npm downloads in the first month, gained 12,000 GitHub stars, and attracted 60 external contributors.

The company plans to launch e2e Cloud in 2027, providing teams with cloud-based testing environments, model and device resources, while the existing open-source framework will remain free.
