Trump says U.S. military launched a new round of limited strikes on Iran on Friday, destroying its air defense systems.
November 7 - According to the Associated Press, U.S. President Trump stated that the U.S. military launched a new round of limited military strikes against Iran on Friday, targeting an Iranian air defense system. Trump said Iran had just completed building an air defense facility, and the U.S. military destroyed it in about 5 to 15 minutes, describing the operation as a "small-scale" strike.
Iranian state media reported that two explosions were heard in the Suza area of Qeshm Island, Iran. Previously, the U.S. military also carried out so-called "defensive strikes" on Monday near the Strait of Hormuz in the Qeshm Island, Hengam Island, and the Bandar Abbas area along the mainland coast. Friday's operation marked the first U.S. military strike on Iran since the Republican Party lost control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections.
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command announced a reward of up to $20 million and possible relocation assistance for information on Iran's nuclear program, including nuclear facilities, equipment, relevant personnel, and their movements.
Trump stated that the U.S. and Iran are still negotiating through intermediaries, but significant differences remain on the nuclear program issue. Iran demands that the U.S. lift the port blockade, remove sanctions, unfreeze assets, compensate for war damages, and end regional hostilities.
Recently, countries including Qatar, Iraq, and Egypt are intensifying diplomatic efforts to push for de-escalation between the U.S. and Iran and avoid further escalation of the situation.
