Intel Agrees to Acquire Startup Classiq to Build Full-Stack Quantum Business
October 27: According to Zhitong Finance, Intel has agreed to acquire Israeli quantum computing startup Classiq Technologies. The transaction price was not disclosed, and the deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027. Classiq's customers include BMW and AT&T, and its technology helps customers write code that can be tested and run on any type of quantum hardware. The acquisition will strengthen Intel's quantum hardware R&D capabilities and make its products easier to deploy on quantum computers.
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said that teaming up with Classiq will transform Intel's quantum computing unit into a full-stack quantum computing company. Classiq has raised more than $200 million in cumulative funding and has about 130 employees. After the acquisition, it will continue to help customers develop code that can run on multiple types of quantum hardware, including competitors' hardware. Intel has been working for more than a decade to translate its silicon manufacturing advantages into a position in quantum computing, focusing on spin qubit technology.
