Hong Kong Interbank Clearing warns of virtual wallet scam: fake websites trick users into providing bank account details

October 31: According to a press release from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited said it has identified two fraudulent websites impersonating its official website, which induce users to make deposits and withdrawals through virtual wallets and claim to offer Faster Payment System (FPS) online transaction security support, including refunds, reporting of unauthorized online transactions and transaction support. Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited stressed that under normal circumstances it does not provide FPS services directly to individual members of the public and does not proactively contact individual members of the public, and warned the public not to provide personal or bank information to the websites concerned.
