Brazil's Mercado Bitcoin Says It Will Bear the $40 Million Loss From Hack

November 3 — According to Bloomberg, Brazilian crypto exchange Mercado Bitcoin said it will itself bear the $40 million loss caused by this hack, and customers are not expected to suffer losses as a result. The exchange said the attack targeted hot wallets, was quickly brought under control, and that it is currently investigating the incident, tracing the assets and coordinating with relevant authorities.

Separately, Onchain Lens posted on X that the Arkham-tagged Mercado Bitcoin hacker entity currently holds about $46.5 million in crypto assets across 46 addresses, including about 3,677 ETH, about 106 BTC and about $8 million in stablecoins.
