Nvidia Asks Data Center Partners to Cut Back Business With Chinese Customers

Nov 3, 18:09

Nov. 3 — Nvidia has asked its data center partners to reduce business dealings with Chinese customers, according to a report by the UK's Financial Times. The report, citing five people familiar with the matter, said Nvidia's cloud computing customers must sell at least 51% of their services to non-Chinese companies. The new rule applies only to contracts signed in the future and does not affect existing agreements. Nvidia neither confirmed nor denied the report, but said in a statement that data centers and cloud services built with American chips are the foundation for U.S. model and application developers to compete globally. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said she was not aware of the situation and that she hopes all parties will provide a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for companies of all countries, including Chinese companies.
