SFC: HKEx to publish discussion paper on extending spot market trading hours in Q4

Oct 9, 10:57

On October 9, Nancy Hang, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), speaking on Friday at the Asian Securities and Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA) conference, stated that the commission is studying reforms to market microstructure, including extending securities trading hours, which will be piloted first in the derivatives market. This step will help investors promptly respond to the rapidly evolving global markets across different time zones, ensuring Hong Kong maintains its competitive edge.

In the long term, the policy of extending trading hours will be accompanied by other innovative measures expected to be implemented, such as tokenized currencies and digital Hong Kong dollar settlement arrangements. Working together, these measures will allow investors to more flexibly adjust positions and manage risk in response to the latest market information. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange will release a consultation paper on extending spot market trading hours in the fourth quarter, welcoming extensive feedback from all parties. (Jin10)
