Apple Officially Enters the Smart Home Market, Unveils $299 AI Smart Display HomeView

Oct 13, 21:25

On October 13, Apple introduced a new device called HomeView. Retailing at $299, this smart display will serve as Apple's core product in its challenge against Amazon and Google to enter the smart home market. HomeView will go on sale on November 13, primarily operated via hands-free voice commands, and will utilize facial recognition technology to provide each family member with a personalized software experience. The device has no physical buttons but is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen featuring an app grid layout that will be highly familiar to iPhone and iPad users.

Apple positions HomeView as an ideal platform to demonstrate the capabilities of the Siri AI assistant. Powered by its built-in camera, the device can instantly identify up to six different users and deliver personalized responses, whether assisting with cooking, enabling video calls with family and friends, or playing music through the speaker. To rapidly expand its presence in the smart home market, Apple is collaborating with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric to launch a series of "Apple Home Collection" accessories, including indoor and outdoor cameras, a video doorbell, a thermostat, and a smart lock. Apple participated in the joint development of these hardware pieces, which will begin shipping in December at prices ranging from $199 to $399. (Jin10)
