OneKey Founder: iPhone Can Be Used as a Cryptocurrency Cold Wallet, Requiring at Least iPhone 17 and iOS 27
On October 14, OneKey founder Yishi published an article discussing how to transform an iPhone into a cold wallet. He stated that relying solely on an offline connection cannot defend against physical extraction risks from forensic devices. The minimum security threshold should be an iPhone 17 or newer model running iOS 27 or later, with device migration required every one to two years.
Yishi noted that the Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE) introduced by the A19 chip can effectively enhance vulnerability defense capabilities. Compared to the "after first unlock" (AFU) state, the "before first unlock" (BFU) state after powering off is more secure. Therefore, for offline storage, devices should be completely powered off, seed phrases must never be saved in notes or photos, and a strong random password of at least 12 characters should be used. For long-term storage of large assets, he still recommends prioritizing independent dedicated hardware signing devices.
