Reserve Bank of Australia Deputy Governor: Rate Hikes to Combat Inflation Are Not Yet Over

Oct 25, 19:09

On October 25, according to Jinshi Data, RBA Assistant Governor Hunter stated that the bank's fight against inflation is "not yet over." In an interview on a Sunday program, when asked whether the RBA has taken sufficient measures to curb inflation, Hunter replied, "Regrettably, not yet." She noted that the board has implemented four rate hikes this year to continue addressing this challenge.

Hunter also discussed the impact of high interest rates on consumers and house prices. Previously, RBA Deputy Governor Hauze stated that the current inflation outlook has "significantly deteriorated" compared to the bank's August assessment. Earlier this week, market expectations for an additional rate hike at the November 3 meeting have intensified.

In late September, the RBA raised interest rates to 4.6%, marking the highest level in 15 years.
