On October 29 that, according to CoinDesk, the Bermuda government has selected WalletConnect to expand local cryptocurrency payment applications, with ticketing platform PTIX as the first integrated merchant. The related payment features are expected to launch in the second quarter of 2027.
Under the plan, users can pay event organizers directly from their personal wallets, meaning PTIX itself does not need to hold custody of the funds. The Bermuda government hopes to leverage this initiative to reduce local merchants' reliance on high-cost traditional payment services. In January of this year, the country announced an on-chain economy plan with support from Circle and Coinbase, and continues to promote USDC payments and merchant adoption.
