Anthropic: Future Models May Soon Reach the AI R&D Acceleration Threshold

On November 3, according to the amended prospectus filed by Anthropic with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, internal company estimates and projections for future models indicate that the threshold defined in the "Responsible Scaling Policy" for "rapid acceleration of progress driven by AI" may be reached imminently.

Anthropic stated that no existing model has yet been deemed to exceed this threshold, and the company is still evaluating relevant data and the implications of reaching the AI research and development capability threshold. It will release further reports in accordance with the policy. The company also noted that using AI to accelerate its own research and development could lead to advancements in model capabilities outpacing the development of corresponding safety, alignment, and risk mitigation measures.
