Guangxi Court Rules: Elderly Investor Bears Own Losses from Cryptocurrency Platform Investment; Lawsuit Against Introducer Unsupported
On November 04, according to a case released by the Fusui County People's Court in Guangxi, in 2020, an elderly couple surnamed Mo, both over 70 years old, were introduced by an acquaintance to participate in an overseas virtual currency mining machine investment project. After initially investing 4,200 yuan and successfully recovering their principal, they subsequently invested over 60,000 yuan. In December 2020, the involved platform shut down, and funds could no longer be withdrawn. In early 2026, the couple sued the investment introducer and the actual operator, demanding the full return of their investment and accrued interest.
The court found that the virtual currency investment activities involved in the case violated relevant financial regulatory regulations and contradicted public order and good morals, thereby rendering the entrusted wealth management contract invalid. The investment losses primarily stemmed from the inherent illegality of virtual currency trading and platform risks, rather than being directly caused by the trustee's personal actions. Accordingly, the court dismissed the plaintiffs' claims, and the second-instance court upheld the original judgment, which has now taken legal effect.
