US Approves Nvidia to Sell AI Chips to Chinese Companies with Vacant Offices

Nov 7, 23:45

On November 7, as reported by The Verge, the U.S. government approved the Chinese company New Matrix's purchase of Nvidia H200 AI chips, but its registered office address is vacant, raising concerns over whether the chip sales review was adequate.

The report, citing The New York Times, noted that New Matrix was established about 17 months ago and has limited publicly available information. It is not listed in the business directory at its registered address, and property management personnel at the complex confirmed they have no record of the company. The company's owners are linked to a Chinese private equity firm that has been placed on a U.S. blacklist since 2024.

The report also stated that it is not an isolated case for companies associated with entities subject to U.S. national security-related trade restrictions to be approved to purchase Nvidia chips.
