Iran Demands Ships Passing Through the Strait of Hormuz to Cross Iranian Waters

July 29th, according to Reuters, citing a senior Iranian official, reported that Iran has rejected Oman's proposal for a joint administration regional mechanism to manage navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has also proposed that one of the entry-exit routes for ships passing through the strait must pass entirely through Iranian waters, while the other must partially pass through Iranian waters. Reuters reported that a senior Iranian official stated that Iran insists that the entire inbound route through the strait and part of the outbound route must be under Iranian control. Iran believes that Oman's control should correspond to its share in the waterway, and establishing a joint management mechanism with an equal share does not align with Iran's interests.

The Iranian official said that only Iran and Oman can decide on the management of the Strait of Hormuz based on their respective shares, and Iran rejects any other country's influence on this matter. The official also revealed that the United States and Saudi Arabia are trying to pressure Oman to advance their "unrealistic" plans for the Strait of Hormuz.
