Microsoft Copilot Paid Seats Surpass 30 Million as Large Enterprises Begin Wide-scale Deployment

According to Pulse Check Beating monitoring, Microsoft 365 Copilot paid seats have exceeded 30 million. A seat represents a paid license for one employee. This number surpassed 20 million in the previous quarter, with net new seats doubling compared to the previous quarter. The final figure also significantly exceeded Wall Street's expectation of around 26.9 million seats.

The growth has shifted from acquiring new customers to expanding within large customers. The number of customers with over 50,000 seats has grown by over 7x year-over-year. The deployment of Copilot to companies with a majority of knowledge workers has increased by almost 75% compared to the previous quarter.

NHS England is rolling out Copilot to 505,000 employees, HSBC has committed to purchasing 200,000 seats, and EY has deployed it to 400,000 employees through the E7 suite, which includes Copilot.

These data indicate that Copilot is transitioning from departmental trials to broad-scale deployment. It provides Microsoft with not only Azure computing power but also direct software subscription revenue. Microsoft stated that the average user engagement rate is approaching that of Outlook and Teams on a weekly basis, but has not yet disclosed the overall unified active rate of all paid seats.
